Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB)

UK insurer-funded body for motor insurance.

The MIB is the UK’s insurer-funded body for motor insurance. Its primary role is guarantee payments for victims of uninsured or untraced drivers. MIB also runs key shared data schemes: it hosts the Motor Insurance Database (MID), and administers the Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE).

02

Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE)

UK-wide incident data sharing.

CUE is a UK-wide data-sharing service (run by MIB) containing non-liability incident data for motor, home and personal injury. Insurers submit details of accidents or losses (even if no claim is yet paid). CUE is often used to uncover staged accidents or policy abuse across different insurers.

03

Motor Insurance Database (MID)

Official register of insured UK motor vehicles.

The MID is the official register of all insured motor vehicles in the UK. As of 2025 MIB’s new Navigate platform hosts the MID data. MID can be queried to check if a vehicle is currently insured. It underpins Continuous Insurance Enforcement and helps insurers verify claimants or identify scams involving out-of-date cover.
